In a survey, it was revealed that around 35% of properties in Pimpri Chinchwad are not registered with the property tax department.
A survey in Pimpri Chinchwad revealed that 35% of properties remain unregistered for tax purposes. The PCMC administration outsources a survey to assign Unique Property Identification Codes (UPIC) for effective property management. Currently focused on Bhosari, Wakad, and Pimpri Waghere, the survey uncovers a significant number of unregistered properties, especially in Wakad.
Numbering for 3,05,573 properties is underway, exposing the tax evasion issue. The additional municipal commissioner, Pradeep Jambhale Patil, highlights the potential doubling of the annual tax amount once the unregistered properties, estimated at two to three lakh, are included.
The municipal corporation plans to serve notices to property owners urging them to register, anticipating a recovery of pending taxes. Unveiling discrepancies, the survey identifies properties registered for residential use being utilised for commercial purposes, creating a misalignment between recorded and actual property areas.
As the survey progresses, officials aim to recover dues for up to the last six years, addressing both tax evasion and structural modifications of unregistered properties. The expected annual tax amount of Rs. 600 crore may double, underscoring this revelation's significance in property taxation and compliance.
