On Monday, the Thane Municipal Corporation initiated the demolishing of 7 luxurious bungalows in Yeeor. The 7 luxurious properties are said to be owned by former bureaucrats and elected representatives from Thane.
According to the officials, the 7 properties to be demolished were constructed without the approval of the civic during the pandemic.
Yogesh Mundhra, a Thane-based activist, complained to the Upa-LokAyukta about these properties in the year 2021, and he said that these buildings were constructed within the ‘eco-sensitive zone’ Sanjay Gandhi National Park limits and he was also concerned about the impact of these constructions on wildlife.
After the complaint, a Municipal Commissioner of Thane was asked to investigate this case. A civic official said, “ We ascertained the allegations, after which it was revealed that the cottages and bungalows, each measuring nearly 500 sq. feet, were built without permission in the pandemic. We have started work on demolishing three structures and will flatten the rest in the coming days.”
Yogesh Mundhra also said that despite many complaints regarding this issue, the Thane corporation ignored this matter and was unwilling to act against these illegal constructions.
