Big News for families! Modi's government approves over 11 million houses under PMAY Uban Scheme.
On Tuesday (18th July 2023), Housing Minister, Hardeep Singh Puri, announced that the Modi government has approved 1.19 crore houses under the PMAY (Urban) scheme. Furthermore, he mentioned that 75 lakh houses have already been given to the people who needed.
During the 'Connect Karo 2023' event, Minister Puri revealed that the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) has significantly changed people's behaviour towards cleanliness. He stated that solid waste processing has increased from 17 per cent in 2014 to 76 per cent today.
In addition, the minister highlighted the progress made in making cities and towns open defecation free. The construction of approximately 73.6 lakh individual and community toilets has been crucial in achieving this goal.
Regarding urban transport, Puri proudly mentioned that India has 860 kilometres of operational metro lines, with an additional 917 kilometres under construction. He expressed his belief that India will soon boast the world's second-largest metro network, urging everyone to take pride in this achievement.
Furthermore, Minister Puri discussed the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), which focuses on improving basic social infrastructure in 500 cities. The mission has provided over 1.4 crore water tap connections and 1.08 crore sewer connections. Additionally, it has implemented various municipal reforms such as GIS-based master planning, Online Building Permission Systems (OBPS), municipal bonds, and improved creditworthiness.
