The land dispute has been persisting since years, though notices were sent by the previous municipal boards but no one claimed possession and hence the colony grew in size gradually.

Loopholes left by gram panchayat in properly representing their claims a forvast piece of village land nearly 40 years ago has turned a nightmare for hundreds of residents in Bedla area, adjoining Udaipur city. More than 1,500 People living in the area fear homelessness after the Udaipur Municipal Corporation (UMC) served them evacuation notice for clearing encroachment from 16 bighas meant for trenching ground.

"Most of the people were fast asleep when bulldozers barged into the settlement, forced people out from 12 houses and demolished the buildings. They can come any time and drive us out. Since then people are in fear and are alarmed at every sound of vehicles passing by," said Neetu Kachhawah, a resident of Bedla.
