Homebuyers brave heat, carry on protest over delay in registries

Braving temperatures of over 40 degrees, more than 50 homebuyers from Greater Noida West carried out their regular protest at Ek Murti Chowk on Sunday against pending registries. The protest is in its 25th week now.

"We protest every Sunday without fatigue and question the government on when the registry will take place. When will we get our own homes? Despite numerous meetings and assurances from MLAs, MP and even the chief minister, the issue of homebuyers remains unresolved to date," said Abhishek Kumar, the president of the New Era Flat Owners Welfare Association (NEFOWA).

Residents said retreating or calling off the protest is not an option now as more homebuyers are joining from other societies. Some of these include Raksha Addela, Ajnara Homes, Casa Greens 1, Eco Village 1, 2 and 3, Aarcity Residency Park, Sanskriti, Aqua Garden, Apex Golf Avenue, Elegant Ville, Aishwaryam Gaur City 2, Devika Gold Homes, among others.

"The government fails to understand the gravity of the homebuyers' concerns," said Mihir Gautam, a resident, who has been protesting every Sunday. Registries of over 60,000 homebuyers across over 20 societies in Greater Noida West have been pending for a long time. Everyone is unanimous that unless the registration of their houses begins and a way is not found for people waiting for 13 years, this is going to be their way of life.
