MUMBAI: Bollywood film producer-turned builder Azam Khan, 52, was nabbed by police for allegedly cheating flat buyers in Virar of around Rs 70 crore. He was on the run for 13 months, and although he was arrested last month, the police announced it only on Friday.
The Palghar district crime branch booked Khan under sections 3 and 4 of the Maharashtra Protection of Interest of Depositors (MPID) Act and under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA.
Khan has been in police custody for 28 days, crime branch inspector Ashok Honmane said. This is the first case in the district of a builder being booked under the MPID Act.
