GANDHINAGAR: The Gujarat government's revenue from the construction cess grew by more than 30% in the financial year 2022-23, the greatest increase in a single year so far. From Rs 572 crore in 2022-23, proceeds of the cess rose to Rs 748 crore in 2022-23.

The government is optimistic of even higher cess collection this year. It announced that Rs 900 crore will be spent on providing better education, housing and health facilities to construction workers and their families.

The cost of each building's construction is subject to a 1% cess imposed by the state government.
