With amendments, now the women in Himachal Pradesh must pay around 4% as a registration fee on buying a property worth Rs 80 Lakh. If the value exceeds, they must pay 8% or more.
After so many protests and even after the walkout by the opposition party, on Saturday, the Indian Stamp Bill 2023 was passed in the assembly. According to the amendments made in the Indian Stamp Bill, women will pay 4% as the registration fee for a property costing Rs. 80 lakhs and 8% if the amount exceeds.
Others will have to pay 6% as the registration fee if they purchase any property worth Rs. 50 lakh and 8% if the price increases. This bill was never revised since 10 years, and on Friday, Revenue Minister Jagat Singh tabled it, and on Saturday, it was finally passed.
Jagat Singh Negi said, "The state has a debt of Rs 75,000 crore, so strict measures are necessary to raise resources, for how long the state will continue with borrowings. The state government has kept this stamp fee on a par with the duty in neighbouring Haryana".
Chief Minister, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said, "In the last 10 months, enough land was sold based on power of attorney, which must stop. Due to our respect for women, we agreed to charge them just 4% for registering property worth Rs 80 lakh. If the BJP had regard for women, it would not have walked out".
This step of the Himachal Pradesh government regarding registration fees will relieve women and encourage them to make investments.
